Come and watch six of your favourite literary organisations – Fondue, Red Room Poetry, Story Factory, Sydney Review of Books, WestWords, and Varuna – battle it out in The Ultimate Pitch – a sporting spectacle not witnessed since perhaps the one and only season of Nerds FC.

This five-a-side soccer tournament will determine whether the nimblest of literary minds also possess the fleetest of feet. 

Will these writers’ deft turns of phrase translate to elegant Cruyff turns on the pitch? Will their physical coordination hold up as well as their coordinating syntax?

Find out in this festival of lettered football that will satiate those longing for more after the World Cup. 

Whether you’re a pitch-side regular or regular pitcher, this is a chance to support and build the community around these six literary organisations, who will also be selling books and merchandise on the day.  

All proceeds will go directly to support the participating organisations.

Who: ELITE Squads from Fondue, Red Room Poetry, Story Factory, Sydney Review of Books, WestWords, and Varuna. 

What to expect: Group stage then knock-out soccer tournament with catered lunch, ample seating, and a fundraiser fair!

When: Saturday, 1 August, 1-5pm 

Where: Ultimate Soccer, Fairfield NSW

Price: Tickets are $25 (inclusive of food). Children under the age of 15 enter free.
